MOLLE Compatible Ruger 10/22 Magazine Pouches

by Retro-Tactical on September 20, 2009

One of the items that I have been asked for quite often is a magazine pouch for the Ruger 10/22. Anyone who has a 10/22 knows what a great little rifle this is, but the magazines are an odd shape and don’t lend themselves very well to magazine pouches.

Some folks have used speedloader pouches as mag pouches for the 10/22 and it works OK. These days, more and more equipment uses MOLLE compatible webbing for mounting pouches, so having a MOLLE compatible dual mag pouch for the 10/22 would be an ideal solution.

With that in mind, I recently set a challenge for myself to design and build a MOLLE compatible 10/22 mag pouch. I put one together last year for a hunting bandolier project, but I wasn’t happy with it. It didn’t really protect the mags that well, and the construction just wasn’t right.

So after a lot of different construction ideas, much tinkering and a few failed attempts, I think I have the design pinned down at last. I tried it on a Choate 10/22 folding stock that I had handy thanks to a Hotel 23 member who is looking for some custom work. It turns out that the Kel-tec saddle fits the Choate stock, so I tried one of my pouches on there with some MALICE clips to hold it.

Here are a few pics of the set-up. I was pleased to see that the stock still folds, even with the pouch on there, and there is room for another small pouch under the mag pouch.

I like how this came out, and I’m going to work on some production quality models to add to the web store.
