The Store Re-opens

by Retro tactical on December 28, 2011

It has been a while since you’ve heard from me, its been a busy year what with one thing and another, but I am back and wishing you all the best of the season.
As you know, the store has been closed while the family moves, but I am about to open the store again, and fire up the sewing machine. My production capacity is going to be lesser than it was as I juggle the demands of Retro Tactical, my day job and my family. Mostly this will manifest as a streamlining of the products I will be offering.
In addition to pruning the current product catalog, I will be redesigning and updating some of the current designs. As these redesigns get completed, I will add them to the store, so over time some of the products will change – the store will look a little different than it did before I closed it.
In addition to the new products, I will also be offering custom services, although I won’t be able to take on as many projects as I did when i was working Retro Tactical full time. If you have a custom need, please email me and let me know, I will be happy to help any way I can.
If you emailed or called me while I was moving, I apologise for not getting a timely reply to you. I will be going over the calls and emails during the next week or so and making contact where necessary.
So a happy new year to you, and keep checking back to see whats new with the store, and keep your eye on the blog, as I will detail my new product and redesign efforts there. And as always, your feedback is always welcome, and thank you all for your support.

GA Firing Line, Marietta, GA

by Retro tactical on December 26, 2011

I don’t often write reviews or do official endorsements, I’m one guy for what it is worth, and as with anything, your experience may vary from mine. That said, I do want to write a little about a small gun store and range, just outside of Atlanta called GA firing line. Prior to its current ownership, the place did not have a great reputation either as a place to shoot or a place to get good customer service. Then along came a man called Dan.

Dan has transformed the place. I’ve heard great things about this transformation over the past year, and indeed have met Dan several times to do business, so when my wife offered to get me a 1911 for Christmas, GA Firing Line was the first stop on my list.

The store was busy when we went in, being the run up to Christmas and Dan just having got his range refurbishment finished, the place was heaving with folk. That said, we were quickly acknowledged and very soon someone was helping us with our purchase. I went in looking for a Rock Island Armory 1911 and came out with a Sig. Lets just say, that my wonderful wife is a patient woman, as were the fine folk behind the counter, who offered me knowledgeable advice, (I have a bit of a clue so I can usually tell when someone is BS’ing me).

Having spoke to Dan several times in the past, I know he is keen on making his store female friendly, and this is good business thinking in my opinion. The store is well lit, and open, not like some stores that appear dark and dank. My wife felt comfortable enough that she decided to get herself her first pistol too!

She has fired a few pistols over the past few years and the one she felt most at home with is the Ruger 22/45 or MK II / MK III .22LR pistol. Dan has a good selection of them, and eventually, she who shall be obeyed picked a MKIII, in black with a bull barrel. However, as she was now on a roll, she did not stop there. She added a matte green Pac Lite barrel from Tactical Solutions. This barrel is a theaded barrel, so I know it’s only a matter of time before we get the suppressor, and when we do, I hope to use Dan and GA Firing line as my FFL.

To sum up our experience with GA Firing line in one word, I would say Excellent! I would recommend then to anyone; new shooters, or experienced that if you are in the Atlanta area, check out Dan and his crew. You won’t regret it.

And here is your gun porn! Happy Yule everyone!

His and Hers, Have a happy Yule.

AK Chest Rig Design

September 2, 2011

A couple months ago I put together a chest rig for my AK. The design spec was simple – it had to be a simple rig, carry 4 magazines, flaps secured with buckles, and lightweight. What I ended up with was this: Made from a combination of 500D and 1000D Cordura, with 2″ webbing and [...]

GCO Vendor Day

August 31, 2011

Early August was the annual Georgia Carry conference, where the folks from Georgia Carry take over a hotel for the weekend, talk guns and gun issues and politics. Once again I participated in the vendor day. I find these days fascinating, because you never know what you will get asked for. In this case one [...]

Pistol Magazine Pocket Pouch

August 29, 2011

A couple of months back I was asked to make a small pocket magazine pouch, something with a nice tight metal clip. Well here it is. Its a simple design, takes a small double stack magazine (Glock 19 size) and has a heavy duty metal clip. I’m not planning on adding this to the web [...]
